My furbabies

I thought now would be the best time to talk about my babies. The first picture is of River(on the left) and Pumpkin(on the right). They were foster cats at first. We live across the street from a boarding kennel and they also sometimes have adoptions. River and Pumpkin were sisters that had been waiting for a home for about a year. They needed more interaction with people so we decided to try out fostering for the first time. Pumpkin was a hider. I had to go between giving her space and getting her used to be held and coaxing her with fun toys. River was entirely different. She spat and hissed and was very aggressive. It took a lot of having the family go about their day around her before she felt even barely comfortable enough to come out most days. They both flourished the more we showed them that it was not a scary space and they could make it their own. We decided to keep them when it seemed apparent that no serious adoptions were coming up. I had fallen in love with taking care of them and working with getting them to a good place behavior-wise. Now Pumpkin is the most affectionate cat you will meet(with strangers it takes a bit but as long as she is approached positively she will warm up to them) and River, though still pretty shy and jumpy at times, will cuddle up occasionally and is the LOUDEST cat when you bring out the food. They both have such different but unique and loving personalities.

The second picture is of Kasumi. She came to our home awhile back with her sister Katie May. They were barn cats that needed a home and of course we have a habit of taking in sibling pairs in this family. Katie May passed away this year due to hyperthyroid and renal disease. We bring up fun memories we have of Katie all the time. It was really tough to take of her chronic issues but we did literally everything we could till the very end and we thankfully made the right choice in putting her to sleep when we did. Kasumi has since tried to interact with River and Pumpkin a tad more. She isn’t the most social cat and tends to have her own way of doing things but she has her own place in this family. Ill have to share funny pictures I’ve gotten of her over the years in another post. For a skiddish cat she has been the most eccentric pet I’ve had in my life.

And those are the furbabies we have so far! We have fostered a couple others and I’ve taken care of my partners cat’s over the years as well. But Ill share their stories another time =)
